Border States Genealogical Society
Several people interested in furthering the genealogical study of Simpson County, KY and it's surrounding counties met recently for the purpose of organizing a new society dedicated to this purpose. This mission has been accomplished and named "Border States Genealogical Society". The following officers were installed at the November 2003 meeting: President: Sue Cooper, Vice-President: Billy Byrd, Secretary: Lou R. Travelsted, Treasurer: Jean Burton; Advisors: Alisa Westmoreland - membership chairperson; Margaret Russell - program chairperson; and Lucy Gent- newsletter editor.
Beginning in January 2002, meetings will be held in January, March, May, July, September and November on the 4th Monday evening at 7:00 PM at the Octagon House (Confederate Studies Archive building) on 31-W North, Franklin, KY. The annual meeting will be in October at 6:00 PM. The Society's newsletter, "In the Beginning ...." will be published on a quarterly basis.
If you are researching in Simpson County or any of it's surrounding counties including upper middle TN, we invite you to join us. As part of your membership packet you will receive a copy of our by-laws as well as 4 issues of "In the Beginning ....". As a member, you can submit any number of queries for the newsletter and/or articles about your research. "In the Beginning ...." editor will reserve the right to edit material submitted.
To quote from the by-laws; ARTICLE #II, Section 1: "Objective" to collect, record, publish, preserve and/or deposit in an archival repository, as selected by the Executive Board, genealogical materials and to educate members in the use of these and other reference materials.

DUES: $12.00 per year for individual or $20.00 for a family membership.
